The summer has flown by and we're looking forward to welcoming students and families back to school soon! The first day of school is Wednesday, August 28th for students, but we have several events that are taking place before that date. Make sure to mark your calendars for:
- PTA Welcome Back Barbecue - Monday, August 26, 5:30 to 7:00 p.m.
- Place your meal order on our website: https://www.csdvt.org/pps/
- Grade 1 & 2 Open House - Tuesday, August 27, 8:00 to 9:00 a.m.
- Kindergarten Smart Start - Tuesday, August 27, 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Families can drop students off as early as 8:00 on the playground for morning recess every day that school is in session. If you arrive before 8:00, please wait with you child until we have a morning recess supervisor on the playground.
The diagram below shows where our morning recess drop off cite is when you pull into the school parking lot from Porters Point Road:
After dropping your child off, you can proceed around the parked cars to exit the parking lot. During morning bus arrival from 8:00 to 8:15 and afternoon dismissal from 2:40 to 3:10, we ask that you not park or drive through the bus loop (area marked in orange on the diagram) that is right in front of the school building.
About dismissal procedures:
We dismiss students every day at 2:45 p.m. We start with students who are being picked up by adults, then we dismiss buses as they arrive in our bus loop. If you are picking your child up, we will have you wait to enter the building until 2:40 p.m. Once the doors open, you can head into the cafeteria to wait for dismissal. You'll sign your child out with our PE teacher, Mr. Pecor.
Sometimes dismissal plans change and here's what you can do to keep us in the loop about those changes:
- If your child's afternoon transportation plans are different than what you provided us during registration or enrollment, please call Sheila in the main office ASAP to tell us about the new plan.
- When plans change during the week, send in a note with your child to let us know about those changes. Include your child's name, the date for the change, and what will be different (picking the child up, taking a different bus to a friend's house, etc.). Sign the note so we know we have your permission. Students give these notes to teachers at the beginning of the day and we give students a note to remind them of the change before dismissal.
- If you have a last minute change, please call Sheila in the main office before 2:00 whenever possible. This gives us enough time to make sure that we can get the message to your child's teacher before the end of the day.
Looking forward to partnering with you for a great school year ahead!
All the best,
Carolyn Millham, PPS Principal
