PPS Reminders - week of May 2, 2016

Dear PPS Families -
We have a busy week ahead!

Vermont Day:  On Friday, we announced that students exceeded our expectations for the Walking Challenge by 340 miles, walking the equivalent of three laps from the top to the bottom of the state of Vermont!  To celebrate this great accomplishment, Monday will be Vermont Day at PPS.  Students are encouraged to come to school wearing something green for our Green Mountain State, something that says "Vermont" on it, or wear something that has a connection to this wonderful place we call home.  Mr. Kriger is ironing his T-shirt from his favorite sugar house even as I write this announcement.  I will take pictures and post them on our website.

District Art Show:  The District Art Show begins on Tuesday, May 3rd and runs through Friday, May 6th.  Hours for the art show are 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. all four days.  There is a special reception on Thursday, May 5th from 6:00 to 8:00 in the evening.  See the flier (click on this link:  2016ArtShowFlyer.pdf) for more details.

Kindergarten Orientation:  Just a reminder that our Kindergarten Orientation for 2016-2017 is Thursday, May 5th from 6:30 to 7:30 in the PPS cafeteria.  Please spread the word to any neighbors or friends in the district who have students entering Kindergarten next year.

Mighty Makers - Project Tie-Dye:  A flier went home on Friday for the Mighty Makers T-shirt tie-dye event on Friday afternoon, May 6th.  Kindergarten families who are planning to attend should be here at 1:30 p.m. with Grades 1 & 2 starting at 1:45 p.m.  I've attached the flier with the RSVP form attached (click on this link: 2016-05 - Tie-dye reminder.docx  .  If you didn't see this in your child's home-school folder on Friday, please print it from this email and send it in by Thursday, May 5th.  Let us know if you're willing to help any children who have family members who aren't able to attend.

PPS Reminder: Week of April 25, 2016

Dear PPS Famlies,
We're entering a very busy time of year and I want to keep you updated about events in the next two weeks:

• Tomorrow, Wednesday, April 27, students and staff at PPS will participate in National Walk @ Lunch Day.  We are challenging all staff and students to walk a quarter mile course in our back field during recess time.  For each mile walked (four laps), students will get a token that represents one mile walked.  We will be collecting up our miles to walk the length of the state of Vermont from North to South - approximately 160 miles.  When we reach our goal, we will have a "Vermont" spirit day and celebrate everything we love about our Green Mountain State!

• Save the date:  Thank you so much for the great response to my request for T-shirt sizes last week!  I had almost all the sizes I needed on Monday.  Anyone who I didn't have a size for, I sized up with some sample shirts.  We want you to reserve Friday, May 6th in the afternoon (1:45 p.m.) - to come and tie-dye that T-shirt with your child for our Project-Based Learning weeks.  We will teach you how to tie-dye before you get started.  Once the color has been added, we will invite you back to the classroom to hear more about the project that each grade level team will work on at the end of May. 

• Kindergarten Family Orientation:  We are looking forward to welcoming the families of our incoming Kindergarten students on Thursday night, May 5th at 6:30 p.m.  The Kindergarten teachers and I will share information about PPS, what students will learn throughout the year, and how to prepare for registration and screening days on 5/10 - 5/12.  If you already have a child at PPS and have a new Kinder starting next year, I hope you'll plan to attend.  We are always growing and changing, so we will have new information to share since your last child attended Kindergarten.  If you have Colchester neighbors and friends who have children starting Kindergarten with us next year, please spread the word about attending this orientation meeting.

Finally, my apologies for the wet clothes and shoes today!  I wanted to get students outside for some recess time, but the snow was very wet and heavy.  It looks like everything has pretty much melted at this point in the day, so the boots and snowpants shouldn't be necessary for tomorrow...I think!
